To the Chagossian people, members and supporters of CRG, friends and well-wishers, and to the “Let the Chagossians return Home” petition signers
Dear All,
Our website was down following a number of suspicious activities occurring on our blog and diagnosed as malicious forms of application hacking.
This was extremely unfortunate and frustrating as it prevented us from being in touch with you during the trying moment of loss of CRG’s historical founding figure, Charlesia Alexis, who passed away on 16 December 2012. She left us on the eve of the most cruel judgment rendered by the European Court of Human Rights against the Chagossian people, whose hopes of return to their homeland were again momentarily dashed after eight long and painful years of waiting.
We have been through this before and each time,we have stood up and continued the fight. We will do it again, but for the moment we are mourning the loss of our stalwart fighter, Charlesia, and commemorating Lisette Talate, another historical fighter and founder of CRG, who left us on 4 January 2012.
A funeral service will be held at the Cassis Church on Thursday 4 January 2013 at 2h pm to mark this double loss. The Chagossian people, members and supporters, friends and well-wishers of the CRG, as well as the formidable network of “Let the Chagossians return Home” petition signers, all of you are invited to attend.
Olivier Bancoult,
Chairperson and Leader of CRG
